Supporting Seniors In Our Community

Aging is a natural part of life—one that we all hope to experience. But, it also brings challenges that can make living with grace and dignity difficult. At the Lutheran Home Foundation, we believe in supporting seniors who have outlived their resources, ensuring they continue to live vibrant, purposeful lives. Your support is crucial in helping us achieve this mission.

Faith is Our Compass

So I give you now a new commandment: Love each other just as much as I have loved you. For when you demonstrate the same love I have for you by loving one another, everyone will know that you’re my true followers. John 13:34-35 TPT

Footprints in Faith is the foundation of the Lutheran Home community. We believe that God calls us to be loving, merciful and generous, and to serve others with the care and grace we would have extended to us. These tenants of our faith guide our steps, and our footprints make a path for others to follow.

Our Foundation works to put our faith into action. We support initiatives that improve the lives of those in our community, and to ensure that our residents whose years outlast their resources never have to leave their homes and friends.

What We Support... and Why

Since 1972, the Lutheran Home campus has provided necessary care and enriched the lives of more than 35,000 individuals. Our community is home to over 400 seniors who benefit from our wide range of services, including independent living, assisted living, skilled health care, memory care, and rehabilitation.

We care for seniors even when they exhaust their resources. We’d like to invite you into our world, and into our mission.

The Face of Aging in Our Community

By 2030, about one in three Missourians will be over 60, and 80% of seniors face at least one chronic health condition. More than 50% of retirees worry they won’t have enough savings to live comfortably. At the Lutheran Home, we ensure no one has to leave because they’ve outlived their resources.

In Southeast Missouri, many seniors struggle to cover their living expenses. By the numbers…

  • 22% of Missourians aged 65+ have some level of cognitive impairment
  • 54% of Missouri’s seniors get at least half their food from food pantries
  • Pre-Covid, 38% of Missouri seniors reported choosing between food and medicine/medical care
  • More than 39% of Missouri’s grandparents are raising one or more of their grandchildren, impacting their ability to save for retirement
  • Almost one-in-five Missourians provides unpaid care to an elderly loved one

This is the community we serve. All of us know people who are impacted by the realities of aging – ourselves, our parents, our loved ones, our neighbors.

More than 1 million Missourians provide unpaid care to an elderly loved one.

As people age, they want to stay in comfortable, familiar surroundings. This often puts an incredible strain on families, who may not be able to provide the necessary support. Whether in their loved one’s home or their own, the costs, time and care associated with caring for a loved one is often not achievable. Seniors need social contact, medical care and activities that accommodate any challenges they may have. With 80% of seniors faced with at least one chronic health condition, significant care is needed. Our staff provides this care.
